Just like every year, World Vitiligo Day 2021 is all set to be observed across the world on June 25. Aimed at building global awareness about vitiligo and fighting stigma around this harmless skin disorder, the event would also attempt to bring together all vitiligo fighters so that they can exchange notes and learn from each other’s journey.
Next stop of World Vitiligo Day
This year, World Vitiligo Day’s headquarters will be set in beautiful Jakarta, Indonesia. With support from the Indonesian Society of Dermatology & Venereology, the event will be run under the supervision of Dr. Srie Prihianti Gondokaryono between June 25 and June 26th, 2021.
Keeping the COVID-appropriate behavior in mind, a panel of renowned speakers will cover a whole range of topics virtually at the eleventh annual World Vitiligo Day.
World Vitiligo Day – A Brief History
The first World Vitiligo Day traces its roots to 2011. Michael Jackson, who struggled with vitiligo from the early 1980s until his death on June 25, 2009, became the catalyst behind the choice of June 25 as an annual event to celebrate vitiligo awareness.
World Vitiligo Day 2021 in the USA
The 2021 Celebration of World Vitiligo in the States will take place on June 26 virtually. The event, which is the result of the partnership between MyVitiligoTeam and the Global Vitiligo Foundation, will be opened by event host Sharon King, Creator, Litty Ligo, Eric Peacock, Co-Founder, MyVitiligoTeam) and Dr. Iltefat Hamzavi, Co-Chair, Global Vitiligo Foundation. Other speakers on the panel include Perry Whaley, Dr. Pearl E. Grimes, Dr. John E. Harris, Dr. Lisa Schuster, James Mcleodl Dr. Nada Elbuluk, Dr. Huang, Dr. Richard H. Huggins, Dr. Seemal R Desai, Dr. Amit G. Pandya, Alicia Roufs, Jake Webber, and Mark Braxton.
The virtual summit will feature discussions on vitiligo research and treatment updates. The discussion will also be focused on vitiligo’s impact on mental and emotional health, promoting open dialogue about the social impact of the skin condition.
