Why should Vitiligo Fighters Meditate?

meditation vitiligo

Vitiligo often leaves us feeling tired, helpless and basically unable to cope. Encountering such feelings are our body’s way of telling us to slow down and to take a few deep breaths. Interestingly, most vitiligo fighters think that breathing is an instinctive act and there is no right or wrong way to do it. But, that isn’t true.

Most of the vitiligo fighters, who are coping with strange stares and unkind remarks, do it wrong, without realizing that it has the potential to resolve our emotional sufferings. Deep breathing can help you feel rejuvenated on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. And, that’s where Meditation can help.

Many vitiligo fighters have reported recovering faster from vitiligo when they combine the meditation practice with their treatment. In fact, many have even said that practicing it alone have made them pause or even reverse vitiligo. While, it’s okay to ignore such testimonials and wait for some solid research on meditation, overlooking the psychological benefits of meditation isn’t okay. To say the least, meditation will help you to be calmer, more willing and aware of troubling thoughts in vitiligo. Won’t you want that?

Why should you meditate?

Whenever you are anxious, you will start worrying about the future and the fear of the unknown (not knowing how much of your skin will be affected by vitiligo) will surround you. You can become paralyzed with the “what ifs.” This can prevent you from staying grounded in the present and from making decisions from a point of clarity. Meditation is simply coming to a point where you can be aware of your thoughts and observe them.

Quick meditation routine

Find a quiet place, which is properly ventilated. Now, come into a comfortable sitting position, sit up with your spine straight. And, relax your shoulders and close your eyes. Now:

Inhale through your nose for 5-4-3-2-1.

Exhale through your nose for 5-4-3-2-1.

Hold your breath out and count 5-4-3-2-1.

Repeat this process as long as you want. You can do this with your eyes open. After all, It’s all about being aware and observing your breath. Using the counts will help you. The meditation is best practiced in a natural open environment, early in the morning.

The Road Ahead

Meditation can bring peace, balance and overall wellness to our lives. Even two or three breaths a day will have a positive effect on you and your vitiligo. And, you can simply perform it, sitting on the floor or chair or even lying down with your back straight.

At times, starting with meditation would be challenging. The physical sensations, negative emotions, and thoughts that arise during practice can be uncomfortable. But, with the help of a thoughtful teacher, you’ll learn to be more peaceful and content.
