Thena, a medical assistant by profession and a photographer by passion, can make all of us recognize the importance of being unique.

How often have you seen a girl having fun with her ever-changing skin? Well, Thena, a 20-year-old medical assistant, and student from Stuttgart, Germany has been doing that for a while. Thena, who was first diagnosed with vitiligo in 2007, can be seen capturing breath-taking shots and having fun with her spot as she progresses on the path of self-acceptance and self-love.

Having vitiligo in childhood or teenage takes a big hit on one’s personal and social life. Thena’s childhood was no different. “Yes, I was bullied as a child as well as a teen. No matter how much I try but I never forget those days. However, that tough time has helped me grow in life. It shaped me into a strong, confident woman that I am today,” the German beauty pours her heart out.

Thena says it was God who helped her overcome her self-consciousness.”Living with vitiligo was difficult as a child and teen. But, God guided me through the tough times and gave me peace of mind, something all teenagers crave for. For me, an answer to many questions is God. The god is love and love is the god,” shares the young student who is currently exploring her passion for Photography.

We often encounter people who offer us a miraculous cure for vitiligo. In most cases, it is different to use your rationale before undergoing any treatments which have no scientific reasoning. Amid the culture of hit and trial vitiligo treatments, it takes courage to refuse them. Thena is one of those brave people. “You can try all treatments, but you don’t have to put yourself through harsh treatment for people who are not willing to change their mindset. Don’t do it for those who don’t deserve it. Be unique. Uniqueness is the most beautiful thing you can wear,” the young photographer makes a valid point.

“What message would you like to share with fellow vitiligo fighters?”, We asked Thena. She replies: “If you want to do something, just do it; don’t wait for that perfect time. Life is hard and will always be hard, so do whatever makes you happy. Celebrate your uniqueness and take pride in standing out from the crowd.”

We wish Thena all the best for the future. We are happy to have her featured among all Vitiligo Crusaders.
